Cinema is a great way to get over the stress and monotony of modern life. There are many things film can do to us. It can make us laugh and make us cry. Sometimes movies change our perception of reality and transform us as people. But sometimes a movie comes out that is so painful and so beautiful at the same time that it changes the outlook on about what cinema is supposed to do for society.
We aren’t talking Avatar here although it is sure to break certain boundaries of what is to be seen at the movies. We are talking about the striking beauty of Precious, a movie that took festivals by storm and is going to do more than that. An adaptation of a novel that shocked many, the movie is bound to transport the viewer into a hellish place no human being wants to find himself – in the shoes of Precious, obese and perpetually abused. But as much as the film thrusts us into the dump as much it is uplifting. It has strong performance from all the cast and it has already garnered its director a plethora of awards, hopefully more to come with the Oscars. No matter how hard the experience of the film is to take in, it shouldn’t be missed because it redefines the understanding of modern cinema as escapist entertainment.

Acting is a skill we use every day without our knowledge. Sometimes, however, we turn our acting mode with a very clear idea of what we are doing. When we feel down and low but smile and say everything is fine we are already putting up an act. When we tell our boss he is he greatest boss ever, when he is clearly a monster out of hell, we are heading right for our Oscar performance. Acting, in a way, is part of being human.
So is it about talent or good acting classes in los angeles? What makes great actors great if all of us can act with some degree of success? It’s a bit of both talent and education probably since no acting class will make you a star unless you have talent and no real stars are up there without some sort of acting education.
An acting class gives you a sense of confidence, determines your direction and presents you a number of opportunities to avail from as well as the necessary contacts to get ahead. Acting classes are beneficial for everybody, even people who don’t dream of Hollywood or Broadway. They build our self-esteem and can have therapeutical effect similar to writing and drawing. So anybody will take away a load of good from an acting class. And the confidence in telling the neighbour that her inedible lemon pie is just magic.

Welcome back, everyone. Today let’s talk about film production. Film production is a long and complicated process of making a movie, from producing an initial idea and core story, through writing a script, shooting, editing, promotion, distribution and so on. Film production is a demanding process involving a great number of people and taking from a few months to a number of years to complete. Some renowned directors have been known for film production lasting over ten years. Usually however it doesn’t take that long.
Film production occurs in five stages. The first one is the writing of the script and designing of a blueprint for a film. Next comes pre-production when the cast and crew are selected, the shoot is being prepared and sets built, costumes designed, etc. Production is a stage where the shooting takes place and the raw material is recorded. During post-production the film is edited, such aspects as sound, music, sound and visual effects are taken care of. The last stage is sales and distribution when the movie is screened for potential buyers, chosen by a distributor and reaches its cinema and/or home media audience.
There is much more to film production especially with DV development and the current success of independent filmmaking. The future of film production is bound to change and the traditional stages of will be dropped or transformed.

The celebrity is the new royalty. What people wear to a film premier is as important as what is shown during Paris fashion week. Ordinary folks copy celebrities’ hairstyles and choice of clothes, they try to walk and talk like them and worship their every move. Celebrity magazines and papers as well as online resources are extremely successful and always sell well.
The search and demand for all things related to movie celebrities is very high. It’s probably because by knowing that movie stars are also people we feel closer to them and are given a chance to relate to the magical world of cinema on a very personal level. Believe it or not, some people would not go see a movie if the star in it is notorious for something they oppose of. In real life, that is. People seem to equate fact and fiction and the ensuing confusion has an effect on movie going choices.
But not everything is that superficial. Some celebrities from the world of movies are changing the masses’ views on morality, charity and the global problems of humanity. These people choose to use their money and wealth to make certain causes heard and that is laudable indeed. So until the movies keep fascinating us we will be peeping into the private lives of the people making it – our favourite actors, producers, directors, our favourite celebrities.

Film festivals are a great place to be for cinema lovers, amateur cinematographers and the professionals of the trade. Festivals are a chance to get noticed for new artists and a way to get promotion and further establishment for continuing contributors. Festival business can be stressful because of its competitive nature and the media coverage pressure, but in general these events give cinematographers new energy and skills to implement fresh ideas on screen.
The number of festivals around the world is staggering and they differ from each other dramatically. The crème of festivals are the following venues known to everyone familiar with cinema: Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Berlin, Shanghai, Moscow, San Sebastián, Montréal, Locarno (since 2002), Karlovy Vary, Mar del Plata, Cairo and Tokyo, as well as Edinburgh and San Francisco. Out of the bunch Cannes is the most important and prestigious. There are also important independent film festivals like Sundance, Telluride Film Festival, Austin’s South and Tribeca Film Festival. There are special animation film festivals and even eco-friendly ones like the Environmental Film Festival held at Yale University.
But there is another type of festival like the Rockland Film Festival. It’s no ordinary fest as it encourages cinematographers to merge fact and fiction which is apparent from its title The True/False Film Fest. The atmosphere there is creative and non-competitive, egalitarian and stress-free. Filmmakers get to communicate and exchange ideas and come out with extraordinary new skills. This is the place to be and a festival that is looking into the future.
